Project Overview

The project Fix Small Art main objective is to examine and moderate different art methods and techniques supporting social tolerance practices and adult education for people with learning disabilities and mental illness, helping  their social and personal empowerment enhancing the training skills of their teachers. The project supports the social workers and trainers to create and connect art techniques with training methodologies making possible the empowerment of people with learning disabilities and mental health to develop their  communication skills, social status and personal responsibility.

Objectives

  • To promote the art as a therapy to recovery people with learning disabilities and mental illness.
  • To promote the social engagement of the target group by developing social skills through their participation in this kind of activities which in turn will enable them in searching / applying for a job.
  • To promote the creativity giving the participants the opportunity to explore and developing knowledge offering possibilities of expressing oneself by using several different techniques
  • To establish a common strategy between professionals that work in the field of mental health and disabilities by developing a basic guide on working with art and paper crafts with people with learning disabilities and/or mental illness
  • Creating capacity building to work in art activities with people with disabilities and mental illness via Art Investigation lessons and Art Making lessons
  • Develop a pilot training programme to test the training content
  • Develop a MOOC containing the previous program
  • Virtual piloting of the MOOC course
  • Dissemination activities including 7 Multiplier Events, attracting +200 participants

Learners

  • People with disability (PWD): adults with learning disabilities &mental illness
  • Students with learning disabilities
  • People with mental retardation (informal called “mental retarded” or MR)
  • People with mental health disorders (people with mental health issues, metal diseases or mental illness have a psychiatric)

Trainers

  • Social workers
  • Professionals working with disabilities
  • Employment specialists, employment consultants, professional representatives , job developers, job-site trainers and Job coaches
  • Community rehabilitation providers
  • Students in social work

Results

Fix Small Art will produce the following outputs:

 Paper Art Facilitator Training

aiming at preparation and approval of the training plan and materials necessary for the implementation of the local Fix SmallArt labs as part of training of learners.

development of Moodle courses for Trainers and learners consisted of videos from the local events and trainings; expected impact on 120 trainers and 200 learners.

actual ToT with 2 participants per organization and 5 days duration, organized in Italy with impact on more than 100 local/international actors

Fix Small Art Guide

development of trainers’ guideline with strategies and methodologies: 50 pages report, separated in 6 modules and used by more than 18 trainers within the partnership and about 120 on-line.

organization of local courses in each country with 40 hours duration where 140 participants to be involved and 6 main exercises will be piloted.
